Binsted Parish Celebrates the Queens Platinum Jubilee in Style on Thursday 2nd June, 2022!

A sell out celebration saw the Binsted Parish community come together to kick start this historical weekend. For one day only, Binsted had it’s very own Town Crier proclaiming the parish’s lighting of the beacon as part of the Commonwealth wide symbol of national togetherness.

The Binsted Recreation ground, resplendent in Union Jack bunting, hosted a variety of family fun activities such as croquet, giant hungry hippos, inflatable obstacle course, rounders, tug of war and egg and spoon races. Picnic-ers enjoyed the beautiful evening sunshine while devouring their delicious hog roast buns, and children (and the young at heart) took pleasure in giant candyfloss sticks and colourful face-paints provided by our wonderful event suppliers.

As the sun started to set, the official Beacon Lighting ceremony began with a call to order from our Town Crier. Grabbing everyone’s attention, our bugler heralded the lighting of the beacon bonfire with a call especially created for the event entitled ‘Majesty’, followed by a solo soprano who performed a beautiful rendition of the official ‘A Song for the Commonwealth’. The beacon bonfire lit impressively, the flames looking stunning against the darkening skies. Onlookers were then wowed by a spectacular display of Fireworks, beautifully frames by the clear skies, moon and stars, with a quintessential British soundtrack of God Save the Queen, Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.

On behalf of The Binsted Fete & Jubilee Team and Binsted Parish Council, we would like to thank the following people, without whom this event would not have been so special: Dennis Smith, Ron Neil, Jo Weeks, Julian Eckersley
